About Stephen

I was born in 1971, to an Egyptian mother and English father just outside of London and shortly afterwards moved to London.

After completing a Sociology degree at Goldsmiths, University of London I left to spend the next 4 years living and working in Padova, Italy; New York City and Tokyo. Whilst overseas I turned my hand to a broad spectrum of work including English language teaching, interview coaching, group counseling for Japanese housewives and acting. Upon my return to London in 1998 I started to write and then took a job with the magazine Sport Business as their website manager.

By 2000, I recognized the work I had explored over the years since Goldsmiths was not working for me and so  took a short break and waited for the next step. In January 2001 I discovered Reiki and immediately felt a connection. Over the next 2 years I took my levels 1-3 studying with  Reiki masters Tripuri Dunne and William Rand and then taught and practiced fulltime.

In April 2003, I started to explore Seiki, a body of work developed by the Japanese Shiatsu Master Akinobu Kishi-san. On the 14th April during a private session with him in London I experienced a powerful awakening and in that moment brought through the beginnings of the body of work I now call deetell. For more information on deetell please click here. Shortly afterwards I started to offer deetell to my clients, students and others in the form of one-on-one sessions.

In 2004, I started to explore the powerful and fast spontaneous movement that was arising from my experiences of deetell and for the first time artistically captured the movement through drawing and then LED long exposure photography.

In 2005, I studied Reconnective Healing with Eric Pearl and felt it resonated more with deetell and so in 2006 ended my Reiki practice to focus on deetell and Reconnective Healing.

In 2008, I exclusively focused my availability and work on deetell offering one-on-one sessions and continuing to express my own practice through drawing, photography, video and performance – having my first exhibition in December at The Ada Street Gallery, London of deetell photographic and video pieces.

In 2009, I started to teach group classes in deetell as well as to explore collaborations with other artists – including New York City House Music DJ/Producer Tim K, the violinist Helena Winkelman and Neil Seligman.

I now live in Stoke Newington, London and work full-time exploring and developing deetell through my client/student work and my own artwork.
